Daddy, Ummi & Adik Baby

Last monday, before kami check in di Concorde, kami sempat buat monthly check up. Alhamdulillah, adik baby dah 19 weeks++. Hehe.... Tapi kalau mengikut doc, jika ditakdirkan I ni memang tak boleh bersalin normal, biasanya by weeks 36 to 38 doc akan induce dah. tak perlu tunggu 40 weeks. (Oh I was diagnosed with CPD via MRI scan during my previous pregnancy).

Anyway, mengikut scan, perkembangan adik baby baik. Alhamdulillah, ukuran diameter skull, abdomen, semuanya sesuai. Fetus heart pun positive. Adik baby pun sama macam abang dia, kuat menendang termasuklah time doc tengah scan. Hehe... Cume untuk memastikan further health condition seperti cleft, formation of organs macam kidney, lung, liver, etc doc suruh buat check up dekat O&G specialist. Tak pe lah, yang tu nanti dulu. Ummi pun tengah survey lagi nak bersalin kat mana kalini. Hihi...

Kalau mengikut babycentre.com, by this week sensory development adik baby sudah semakin sensitif.

Siapa cakap bila dah pernah pregnant, the next pregnancy akan jadi mudah. Yes in some way, tapi sebenarnya walaupun baru 2 tahun yang lalu I pregnant, tapi bila pregnant lagi banyak jugak I kena belajar or recall semula. OK la tu kan. Baru la rasa seronok. Hehe...

Sebabtulah, seboleh2nya Daddy akan cuba balik sebulan sekali walaupun hanya 3 hari shj, sebab Daddy taknak miss monthly check up adik baby.

Amiinnn....

Akh Aaron Houdd pun sama. Kecik2 dah berjauhan dengan Daddy. Walhal time macamnilah waktu yang paling sesuai untuk Daddy mendidik anak2nya macam2 pelajaran. Aaron pun dah tak banyak 'Daddy & Son time' macam dulu. Tapi Daddy tetap sayang, sama macam dulu...

And for the first time after 3 months being in long distant relationship, malam ni Ummi terasa sebak sangat.

Masa Aaron demam panas, 2 malam berturut2 Ummi berkejar ke A&E SDMC.

Dilema ibu muda # 2

Najihah Azzahra & Aaron Houdd

Katanya, mau jadi tarzan jugak kalau kat rumah tu. Maklumlah, anak membesar sama2, umur pun lebih kurang aje. Masing2 dengan keletah masing2... Akhirnya si ibu la yang menjadi tarzan. Haha. Agaknya bila Aaron Houdd ada adik nanti pun, I akan jadi tarzan jugak la kan. Hehe...

Sebelum I pos entry ni, I ada bertanya kepada sahabat2 lain yg juga seorang ibu, tentang pengalaman mereka as young moms. Alhamdulillah, masing2 ada pengalaman tersendiri and kalau dikumpul2, semuanya bagi I refresh ilmu2 and skill parenting.

Daripada semua perkongsian yang I dapat, kesimpulan yang I boleh conclude adalah:-
1) Time management. All of the moms tekankan aspek ni. Kena ada plan and preparation so that kita tak la gelabah di saat2 akhir

2)Husband! As of me, even my hubby selalu busy, tak banyak masa bersama kami, tapi my hubby cukup understanding. Alhamdulillah, I coudn't ask for more. Isteri anda bukan orang gaji OK.

And kepada isteri2, jangan rasa segan untuk meminta tolong. Kalau kita minta tolong doesn't mean kita loser. And sometimes kalau suami bersama2 merasa kekangan yang kita rasa, barulah suami memahami situasi kita.

3) Body fitness- Badan kena sihat, supaya kita beroleh tenaga nak mengurus segalanya. Makan kena jaga, and sila exercise (I la pemalas ya amat nak exercise.hehe)

You know, like when we redha and ikhlas buat apa yang kita buat, kita tak rasa benda tu seperti satu beban, in fact, kita rasa happy sebab dapat contribute kepada orang2 yang kita sayang.

How to gain kekuatan spiritual, kenalah banyakkan zikrullah, amalkan doa2, and rajinkan diri mendengar kuliah2 agama/parenting. inshaAllah, kita akan jumpa kekuatan.

* Sometimes kalau I penat atau mengada2 malas, I akan cakap ngn my hubby taknak buat something sebab kalau buat nanti tak ikhlas nanti tak dapat apa selain penat. Silap2 dapat dosa... Haha, terukkan excuse I. Tp my hubby tu ada je idea nak jawab. Nanti dia akan jawab "Kalau time2 macam ni awak kuatkan hati n gagahkan diri utk buat jugak, inshaAllah ganjaran nya berganda2. Takkan taknak?" I end up buat muka la apa lagi... Tapi biasanya memang dia akan tak bagi I buat sebab dia tahu I betul2 takde keinginan nak buat pd waktu tu. Hehe.

5) One of my friend Madihah, she shared one info yang orang lain tak sentuh lagi, which is kalau kena hantar anak pergi nursery, make sure kita kena pilih yang terbaik, so that tak banyak maslah timbul along the way, and hati pun tak rasa susah sentiasa, so dapatlah fokus time buat kerja. Biarlah susah macam mana pun, leceh macam mana pun nak memilih, asalkan hasilnya memuaskan.

Other than that, some of the stories membuatkan I muhasabah myself as a mom and as a person.

Like one of my friend Ummi, she's currently residing in Mesir. Tapi Alhamdulillah, sekarang si kecik tu dah 2-3 tahun pun. Tinggal Ummi nya nak bagi adik je tu :D Sekarang pun katanya anaknya dah mula memahami si abi dan umminya sama2 masih pegang buku, sama seperti si anak. She must've doing great all the while. I hope to meet them one day.

One of my friend since matriculation (Shye), seorang career woman. Sometimes ada jugak kami ber YM and bertukar2 info tentang parenting, breastfeeding and child's education. Baby Ameerah pun dah besar dah sekarang dah pandai membebel2. And one precious thing yang she shared with me is that we can't do everything on our own. So jangan segan untuk minta tolong especially from suami. Also, it's good to share apa yang kita rasa kepada gang2 ibu yang lain.

Baby Ameerah and her wonderful parents.
My SIL pulak, dia ni kawen awal (Actually tak la awal mana. Sama je usia I kawen. 23). Walaupun dia adalah suri rumah sepenuh masa, tapi maybe cabaran dia is, belum pun  setahun kawen, anak dah lahir. Maksudnya kawen and terus pregnant. So she has to adapt nak jadi isteri and ibu almost the same time. And dalam family my in laws, mereka bukanlah biasa dengan surrounding yang ada anak kecik ni. Aaron Houdd was the only baby. Selama Aaron lahir pun mereka tak berkesempatan nak betul2 belajar tentang pengurusan baby. So my sister in law ni kira fresh jugak la kena belajar everything on her own. So, having a very understanding husband helps her a lot in many ways. And as many other moms, she read a lot too. So Alhamdulillah, sekarang ni baby Najihah Azzahra pun dah masuk 3 bulan, and I can't wait to see my little niece!

Another story yang a bit different is from my ex-collage mate, Hassanah, who at first, was being tested with her sick baby. Her baby had to stay in the hospital for quite long jugak la, hampir sebulan kalau tak silap. Some days, the baby's condition was critical. Baby masuk NICU. And she was so sad she couldn't breastfeed her baby macam yang orang lain buat. Tapi I love her positive aura. Of course kita tau dia mesti amat tertekan, sedih and macam2 lagi perasaan. Tapi most of her FB status were all encouraging- giving herself some kinda hope. Alhamdulillah, sekarang baby dah sihat walafiat. And she said, she see hikmah di sebalik semua dugaan ni. Ye la, disebabkan dia pun c-sect jugak, so even dia tak dapat nak direct bfeed anak, tapi dia dapat more rehat and heal herself even better. Kalau orang lain dengan sakit2 nak kena dukung anak, bangun malam2 buta susukan anak, dia tak perlu buat semua tu. And bila time baby Ihsan dah sembuh, Alhamdulillah waktu tu dia dah sembuh sepenuhnya daripada sakit bersalin. Stok susu pun dah bertimbun2.. See, she really has that positive attitude.

So, itulah contoh2 cerita2 first time moms yang mana each one has different situation, and mungkin cerita dan situasi kita ada tersangkut kat salah satu cerita di atas. But the basic is still the same. Everyone encounter stages of problems, both in marriage and parenthood, but as long as we keep our niat straight, stay focus and most importantly, REDHA dan IKHLAS, inshaAllah semuanya akan OK.

Before I end this entry, I want to share satu link yang sahabat baik I (wafa) bagi kat I as to share to us, the moms, sebagai satu muhasabah yang baik supaya kita lebih tabah dan bersemangat melaksanakan tanggungjawab kita as a wife, mom, daughter, and a human being.

p/s: Walaupun ada 1-2 points yang I kurang setuju, tapi overall it is a good reminder for us all.

Merancang kehamilan, cara mana?

Tajuk kali ini adalah tentang MERANCANG KEHAMILAN...
Tajuk ni dah berkurun lama I draft dalam otak. Konon nak mencari mood sesuai tapi biasalah mood selalu tak datang and I bukanlah seorang yang sangat kuat daya ingatan so akhirnya I buat la mood sendiri untuk discuss topik ni...

So, pasal apa dengan MERANCANG KEHAMILAN ni?
Nak dijadikan cerita, during my last check up with my gynea almost 2 years ago, Dr. just check my incision site, my uterus condition and my general health condition je. And I ingat 2 perkara yang Dr cakap 1) My incision site cantik and dah boleh pakai bikini pun 2) My uterus and health condition pun dah ok and kalau nak preggy lagi right away pun dah takde masalah... (What? right away?!)

And di dalam meeting tu sebenarnya Dr discuss pasal family planning. Dr terangkan tentang cara2 untuk merancang kehamilan. Ada a few cara termasuklah IUD, diaphragm, vasectomy, implant, condoms and withdrawal.

Withdrawal ni cara mudahnya is melakukan ejaculation di luar vagina. Cara ni paling zero cost. Tapi dalam masa yang sama it is very risky and less effective. Accodring to my gynea, pre-ejaculation juga mengandungi sperma yang cukup banyak untuk menyebabkan kehamilan. Kalau biasa dengar kes orang cakap dia buat 'family planning' but tiba2 si isteri pregnant and mereka cakap 'accident', mostly sebab mereka menggunakan cara ini.... So kesimpulannya, kalau rasa memang tak nak pregnant lagi and perlu menjarakkan kandungan, janganlah guna cara ini....

Kalau kondom pulak, lebih kurang 78% sahaja effectiveness of using condom as birth control. Sebab, kita tak boleh sure 100% yang each and every condom yang digunakan adalah tidak rosak. And kebanyakan pasangan juga tidak berapa menyukai penggunaan kondom.

Mengikut suggestion Dr, kalau muda lagi, better tak payah ber IUD and Diaphragm bagai.

Cara ni mudah sebab bila kita nak planning ambil je pil tu, and bila rasa dah sesuai untuk pregnant lagi just stop taking the pill.

And birth control pills ada berjenis2. But for a breastfeeding mom, pill yang selamat digunakan dan tidak mengganggu production susu dan nutrisi baby is  NORIDAY. And ia boleh didapat di pharmasi2 berdekatan rumah anda....

Bila orang tanya I, I akan jawab dengan jujur yang yes, I was taking the pill. Kebanyakan muka yang respon memang agak mengerikan as in taking pill is not safe and cause many side effects. Antara side effect yang famous adalah nanti jadi gemuks and lepas stop pill takut terus mandol (ayat mudah paham la tu ekk). In fact, sometimes seriously cara dorang respon as in I buat salah besar.

Actually pill zaman sekarang ni kebanyakannya safe from those side effects. Biasalah setiap benda yang artificial mengundang side effects. So does this pill. Antara side effectnya adalah peod yang tak teratur (untuk Noriday but for some other pills like Jasmine, the menstrual cycle is fine), sometimes boleh dizzy, and it is stated that some pills can increase the risk of breast cancer. But the risk is only there during the time we consume the pill. Bila kita stop ambil ubat tu, there's no more risk of getting breast cancer. And juga boleh mempercepatkan kadar stress... Yela, pill2 ni semua berkaitan hormon kan. Maka ianya bergantung kepada individu juga on how our body tolerate with the medication.

Tapi ada juga beneficial effects from the pill. Antaranya adalah mengurangkan risiko vaginal infection (sebab mucus akan jadi agak pekat kalau ambil pill so kurang infection), kurang risiko cervical cancer and kurang risiko pregnant la apa lagi. Hehehe...

Apa2 pun, before taking any medicine, kita kena tau adakah kita mempunyai penyakit lain atau alahan atau makan ubat lain yang boleh contra indicate dengan pill ni. Tu yang penting sebenarnya. Sebab I think kalau kita normal sihat, inshaAllah takde apa...

As for me, pengalaman mengambil pil ni selama dekat setahun jugak la, I takde apa2 masalah kegemukan (OK, klu I gemuk pn sebab I yang suka teman hasben makan malam2 pastu terus tidur and malas excersice, so jangan nak salahkan pill). I jugak tak mengalamai stress yang melampau sampai kena jumpa psikatrist. I jugak masih menyusukan budak kecik-besar tu sampai sekarang. Cuma yes, my menstrual cycle agak problem...

Kesimpulannya, semuanya masih di dalam kawalan... Alhamdulillah.

Tujuan I cerita tentang benda alah ni semua bukanlah nak promote family planing or any birth control pill. Kebanyakan orang masih rasa benda ni is like cerita dalam kain yang very personal and hanya hasben and wife je boleh share.

Wallahua'lam...

Macam mana cara berpantang yang sebenar?

Aaron 12 days old. Kitorang jalan2 makan angin and balik S.Alam sekejap time ni.
Keesokan harinya dia menjadi budak botak!
About a week ago in one evening, I brought Aaron Houdd to a playground. We did the usual things there. Than, I met one Pakistani mother with her pretty daughter playing side by side with Aaron. So we greet each other and started the conversation.

Surprisingly, the mother was actually in her confinement period. She just had delivered her 2nd baby girl for the past 2 weeks.... I asked her who took care of the baby, she said the maid. She said the sister (her first daughter) is so active and loves to kacau the adik that is why she brings her to the playground...Tell you what, she is a doctor! And rileks je dia jalan2 pergi playground and all... Heheh.

So question here: Kalau tak pantang macam mana nak sembuh? habislah nanti bentan!

And terus teringat one famous claim yang selalu I dengar: Muda-muda boleh la tak jaga, nanti dah tua haaa, baru lah sakit itu ini....

So here's another question: How is the real confinement anyway?

Selalunya kalau bercerita pasal berpantang ni akan ada dua kategori: Cara modern and cara tradisional. And kedua2 cara ni memang opposite.

OK I bukan seorang doktor, bukan jugak seorang mak bidan. And I cuma baru ada 1 kali pengalaman melahirkan anak. So kalau rasa apa yg I cakap ni salah or tak suka...Tak apa :)

Pehhh... and nak tahan sakit tu pun memerlukan kekuatan dalaman yang memenatkan jugak kan?

I rasa semua orang patut faham yang during pantang memang kena banyak REST. Sebab simple je. Nak pulihkan tenaga, and sebenarnya along the way kita berpantang tu dah cukup memenatkan sebab nak take care of diri sendiri yang belum betol2 sembuh and baby. Kalau dapat hire assistant or nany pn OK juga. Tapi siapa kata kalau berpantang kena duduk je, baring je? Uih, mana nak cepat baik macamtu?

I dulu masa 2nd day doktor dah suruh bangun and belajar berjalan. I think this is a normal procedure utk c-sect mom. And kena bersenam jugak sikit2. Baru badan tak rasa letih tak tentu pasal. And not only me, I think zaman sekarang ramai orang berpantang sendiri je. Masak sendiri, jaga anak sendiri, basuh baju sendiri.... Hehe... Schedule fleksible....

Kalau ikut doktor, semasa dalam pantang memang kena minum banyak air. Sebab 1) taknak badan dehydrate. Nanti lebih letih 2) Nak menyusukan baby kan? kenalah minum air supaya susu pun boleh keluar 3) Mengelakkan sembelit. Bayanglah dah sakit bersalin, sembelit lagi. Oh no!

Kalau nak makan daging lembu pun OK. Tp kalau tak bersalin pun semua tau daging putih lebih sihat dan mudah cerna...

Jangan skip sumber nutrisi tertentu semata2 kerana takut jahitan tak baik atau luka lambat sembuh. Masa zaman I kecik dulu I tengok my auntie berpantang makan nasi kosong, ikan bilis goreng and kuah sayur. Aduh, 60 hari makan macam tu je. Oh no!
I faham ada orang cakap makanan sejuk la panas la. I pernah tanya O&G. dia tanya I balik "u ni ada keturunan cina ke? org cina yg selalu ada byk pantang larang, makan sejuk la panas la, fengshui la"... and then dia cakap lagi benda ni is subjektif. kalau nk cakap dari segi saintifik, kalau cth tembikai tak boleh makan sebab sejuk - tembikai mengandungi gula (fruktose etc). ayat mudah, gula akan menjadi sumber tenaga dlm badan. penghasilan tenaga (energy) akan melibatkan pembebasan haba.

I ambil jalan tengah, as I am a scientist I memang tak deny la apa yg doktor ni cakap. cumenye mungkin ia juga bergantung kepada individu itu sendiri. sebab setiap manusia ni unik kan? mungkin ada faktor lain seperti paras kesihatan kita secara umum, penyakit2 lain seperti diabetis ke, darah tinggi ke, sakit saraf/sendi, apa2 infection ke, apa2 lah... atau pun thap toleransi kita terhadap sesuatu bahan makanan - allergy etc. So still, ia bergantung kpd individu.

Dah awak sakit kan, kenalah jaga makan jugak...

Pantang pertama, kalau kita hidup memang ada alergik, so time pantang elakkan lah makan apa yang kita alergik tu. Contoh I tak boleh makan seafood macam udang and sotong, and setengah2 ikan macam ikan kembung. Kalau makan nanti naik gatal2. So time pantang I elakkan makan tu semua. Sesetengah orang alahan benda lain macam kerang, kekacang, etc. Up to individual.

I elakkan makan yang berminyak and kolestrol tinggi.. Ala, kesimpulannya, kalau nak tau makanan tu berkhasiat ke tak, makan macam kalau kita sihat tapi nak maintain diet seimbang and taknak gemuk.

Ada orang cakap elok makan ikan haruan ketika pantang esp czer sebab nak bagi luka cepat sembuh. I memang the first 2 weeks I makan ikan haruan je. Yg fresh lagitu! Maybe sebab kandungan protein dia very high kot. And I was told that ikan haruan ni dia ada 1 kelebihan. klu kita pancing dia, terlepas dari kail, dia boleh lompat masuk balik dlm sungai (susha mati). Mungkin due to very high protein content plus other hormones/enzymes yg ada pg ikan tu... Kalau korang dok ovesea makanlah ikan lain, takkan nak carik ikan haruan jugak. Susah kot. Ayam? Ayam pun sumber protein yg baik (daging putih kan). I think chicken is not the problem. I makan ayam hari ke3, makanan hospital. OK je.. tp maybe kalau betul ayam tu bg ruam ke, gatal ke apa, samada kita yg alergik ngn ayam, or ayam tu ayam suntik yg kita mungkin tak tahan dgn effect nya. Ayam kampung ok kot (ceruk mana nk carik?).

I think kalau orang cakap jgn minum ais, jgn makan pedas, jgn makan yang angin2, no harm kalau kita ikut. Sbb by nature pun memang those things are not good untuk kita consume. Ais, tak elok kan. pedas tu takut perut memulas kan susah nak ke toilet semua...baby pun kesian...*I ada pengalaman 2 kali demam sebab breast bengkak susu terlalu banyak sebab 1)I minum air sejuk-even no ais kat mcD 2) I gi tengok wayang ngn hubby masa hari ke 35 kot, panggung tu sejuk sangat and air pun sejuk that is why bengkak and demam. So it's a big NO for me on taking ice.hehe*

Other than that I tak berapa strict sangat. Generally, asalkan I rasa benda tu OK in term of nutrition, hygiene and taste of coz, I akan makan. Tapi I bukan nya main ikut suka je. I puas tanya my OnG specialist, and a few kawan2 yang doctor tentang apa yg boleh and tak boleh di makan. In fact, one of my friend, she's a doctor and time pantang dia makan kari ayam. Oh dia pun czer jugak. Hahaha.... I tak la makan kari ayam sebab tak suka kari, bersantan and susah kot nak masak kari ayam. Simple2 sudah.Hehe...

one of my fav during confinement: Pasta salad.
Tu bab makan... Bab berurut, bengkung and tungku?

I rasa tak salah. Asalkan kena pada cara. Yelah, bukan selalu dapat pergi SPA. Silap2 kalau tak bersalin tak dapat merasa orang urut2 badan kita. Tapi sesetengah doktor tak galakkan urutan yang menyakitkan. Sebab boleh jadi worse. Maybe ambil jalan tengah, urutlah tapi jangan yg sampai badan sendiri tak boleh take it. Boleh ke mcmtu? Hehe...

Bengkung ke tak pun bergantung. I masa 2nd day dah pakai girdle. And tell you what, rasa perut lagi ketat and secure. And paling penting kurang rasa sakit sebab kurang gegaran. Ini pun atas nasihat my OnG specialist. I rasa kalau nak mudah, tak payah la pakai yang kain ela panjang2 sape nak tolong ikatkan ye tak? zaman skarang ramai yang pantang sendiri jek, tak de dah mak bidan datang umah.... Hehe...

Tungku tu orang cakap nak bagi angin keluar. I tak sure. Tapi kalau nak buat sedap badan, rileks, memang OK lah...haha. Kan dah cakap time ni lah nak manjakan diri. Hehe...

Bab pakai pilis kat kepala, benda ni most ppl yang pakai cakap kepala rasa ringan sebab kurang angin. I dulu tak sempat carik so tak pakai. Tapi one of my problem masa dalam pantang dulu is memang I rasa angin kat kepala. Tak best. Hehe... My late grandma dulu, sapa2 sakit kepala dia memang akan buat pilis. My dad pun penah pakai pilis tu. Hehe...

Jamu and pil, some doctors mmg tak galakkan due to content dia sometimes tak jelas. And most docs and paeds tak bg ambil jamu kalau kita breastfeeding. Alah, I tak makan jamu pun Alhamdulillah sihat. Berat badan sama macam before pregnant. Kalau gemuk pn sbb suke makan malam2. Bukan sbb tak makan jamu. I lebih sayang anak daripada nak cantik. Hehe

So I rasa takde timbul isu tradisional or modern. I tak faham bila doktor cakap benda yang boleh dan tak, bila kita ikut cakap doktor ada jugak orang akan cakap "Doktor tu mana tau, dia modern" I terfikir jugak habis kalau doktor pun tak tau, even dia doktor pakar, so sapa lebih tau? takkan banker, takkan photographer?

And biasa orang akan cakap time pantang kalau tak jaga betul2 nanti tua sakit2 badan. I totally agree. Silap2 lambat baik. And kalau nak sihat, bukan time pantang 40-60 hari je kena jaga, pastu lepas pantang makan apa sahaja and tak bersenam. Bajet boleh sihat tubuh badan sampai umur 70 tahun? Silap2 sakit jantung... Point is, kalau nak sihat, kena jaga makan and lifestyle every day!

Kadang2 kalau kita buat kerja rumah time berpantang, orang cakap macam tak syang badan and modern. Tapi kadang2 orang yang cakap tu daripada bercakap apa kata tolong kita buat kerja rumah. Hehe... Kita pun suka kalau ada assistant ye tak.

And I think ni bukan soal sayang badan atau tak. I think maybe kita beruntung sebab masyarakat kita ni jenis yang 'menjaga' and 'concern'. Tapi tak semua orang ada peluang nak manjakan diri betul2 time pantang. Life must go on maa. I just imagine kalau kita dok negara orang, takde sapa nak tolong sangat melainkan husband and closest friends, nak taknak kena buat sendiri semua kan? Cuma I think it depends on us la strategi apa nak guna untuk memudahkan kerja kita....

Instead, I sebenarnya rasa pelik kalau orang yang dah lepas 30 hari tapi masih tak boleh buat kerja rumah apa semua. I tak cakap I terer tau. Kalau u all baca my prev entries about my confinement, u all tau I pun serabut and kelam kabut time confinement. Tapi kita kena belajar jugak nak taknak. Tak boleh nak keep on blaming the situation. Once dah ada baby kecik, memang hidup berubah, masa takde...Tp bukan maksudnya mustahil utk buat apa yg kita nak... Kena kuat semangat sikit lah.

I teirngat masa I dalam pantang dulu my cousins in law datang visit and dorang kata dorang bajet masa masuk rumah I mesti ada bau orang bersalin and I duduk atas katil je. Sekali I rileks je macam tak bersalin... Hehe.. Ala, time tu dah week 3. Boleh la I berlagak terer sket. Hehe.. Lagipun memang dah boleh jalan and buat kerja... Kalau first week tu memang banyak duduk je lah.Hehe...

Apapun, like I said earlier, I bukan doktor and I tak expert bab ni. Ini cuma my sharing berdasarkan info yang I korek2 masa I berpantang dulu. Czer or normal, basic nya sama je. Yang beza maybe time of healing, cara menjada luke tu and few other small matters...Wallahua'lam...

Ramadhan: How to retain energy preggy mommy?

As-salaam alaikum.

How's everybody? How's fasting? Good huh? Alhamdulillah...
As for our family, we've been having sahoor together since day one. Yeah, together means with that (not so) tiny little tummy is included. Apparently, he wakes up earlier than the daddy. Ahha, sorry daddy. The son is a morning person and he has no problemo at all to wake up for sahoor. :D

Talking about fasting, I remember my fasting time during my pregnancy two years ago. I was about 4 to 5th months pregnant when Ramadhan came that year. Alhamdulillah, I'd passed fasting without fail. It wasn't that hard for me cause I wasn't a good eater during my pregnancy. Not a good eater, at all!

That was my story 2 years ago. Today, I witness three wonderful mothers striving their best to fulfill the Ramadhan fasting:-

The first one is my labmate, K. Su,- a 6 months preggy mother with a 15 months old toddler. She must have a very strong spirit to keep fasting while doing all the labworks and being a mother. As you may know, labworks are not easy. Handling chemicals, experiments, loading and unloading materials- these are not just challenging, but may also be dangerous! I know some of the experiments she is doing, cause I used to do that then. All I could say is, some of the chemicals used are very, very hazardous. One of it could intercalate your DNA if it penetrates your skin. How scary is that huh? :P And science experiments sometimes require you to stand for quite long, or if not, you have to walk to several places back and forth just to finish your work.

And...taking care of a growing up toddler is another completely challenging story :)

Same goes to my bestie, Puan Wafa, who is also a 6 months expectant mother with an energetic toddler in the house. She's a student, a mother, a wife... she's amazing!

Another one is my bestie since secondary school, Teacher Te'a. I can't imagine how she handles the naughty students everyday. I can't imagine her fasting days with the duties she carries on, plus her 7-8 months baby in her womb. That hasn't include the staircases and the long walking to each class! She told me that her doctor was not in favor to let her fasting during this holy month, afraid if the baby is malnutritions. But she wants to try. And she has not fail, yet. She said she's doing good. And she is confident the baby is also good.

And I believe there are a lot more wonderful preggy mothers out there striving hard to fulfill the Ramadhan fasting. InshaAllah, all your efforts gain rewards from The Almighty Allah. Ameen.

So here, I would like to share some tips to retain energy and nutrition while fastinng:-

  1. NEVER miss sahoor
  2. Drink a lot of plain water. Not necessarily during sahoor. You can drink at night.
  3. Don't miss your supplement. Taking obimin alone should be enough. (for 2nd and 3rd trimester)
  4. Some doctor will give you calcium tablet if you cannot drink milk and take less calcium base product. So don't miss it as well.
  5. Sahoor with a healthy food. So that you could have enough vitamins and minerals the whole day
  6. Ingest protein base products, as it takes longer time to get digested. Why? because protein slower the movement of food to the intestine. This means, you'll feel full for longer and hungrier later. Protein also have steady effect on blood sugar. This avoids quick steep rise of blood sugar as compared to carbohydrates, thus you don't get hypoglisemic (lack of sugar) easily. Protein from vegetable, poultry and fish are the best option. But, don't take excess protein base product and leave behind other needs. Key point: Make sure you eat a healthy diet. But it's good if you could maintain taking protein products in each diet.--> This doesn't mean you won't feel hungry. What's good about fasting if you don't feel hungry? fasting = hungry = totally make sense.
  7. Iftar with also a healthy diet. Make sure you don't over stuff yourself. Leave greasy and oily foods at bay.
  8. Rest whenever necessary!
  9. Keep yourself confortable
Anyway, always remember that fasting is not wajib for a preggy mother. Just break-fast whenever you think you and your baby couldn't afford fasting. Don't compare yourself with others, cause your body works differently with others. Your baby also 'eats' different amount of foods than other babies :P

Happy fasting everybody!

Haaa, tak puasa ekkk!
AllahuRabbi, it's 2 a.m. already... Jangan terlajak bangun esok pagi udah le.... Takpe, Aaron volunteer jadi jam loceng almost every morning. Hehe

Go away, fever!

Gambar hiasan... Pipi Aaron dan pau sama comel :)

This has been the 2nd time Aaron Houdd demam pada waktu malam. Temperature raise suddenly at around 8-9 pm. And if refer to the previous one, demam akan kebah after aaron having it for 12 hours or so (lebih kurang keesokan petang), but will come back with lesser heat the other night... then barulah demam betul2 pulih.

Like the first time, Aaron muntah. But this time not as much as the previous one. And akan meragam sikit2... Alhamdulillah even though this time the temperature is slightly higher than before, but Aaron looks more comfortable, maybe because he doesn't have flu for this time... if not, ngamuk je susah nak nafas...Ni pun kejap tido kejap bangun...Maklumlah tak sedap badan....

Now at 1.45 am, I'm still wide awake, monitoring his condition and his fever has not reduced just yet. Last temperature check was 38.6 degree. Have given him 1.5ml/120mg Acetaminophen and really hope the temperature will reduce within this one hour... If not, terpaksalah bawak dia pergi klinik...

And sempat lagi update blog? Oh my, emak2 zaman sekarang! No la, actually before I give him the ubat, I wanna check the appropriate dosage for him. Takut tersalah dos. Tu yang tetiba online, and since Aaron is now sleeping after struggling with his Ummi yang nak bagi ubat tadi, I pun hapdate la blog before meng off my laptop... Hehehe...

Dear Aaron,
Be strong my dear, I know you are now fighting with the infections or whatever things that have intruded your body... I am always here, by your side, so don't be afraid dear.... I love you

Simple guide on How to avoid post-partum depression

Pangkor Island, Aaron-5 month old

Salam,

Actually I was planning to post this entry but it came out like a longgggg essei about my confinement experience (my previous entry) so I decided to make it a separate entry...

Tapi these 2 entries are connected... So I post je kedua2nya sekali... Tunggu2 kang semua idea lari pulak. Hehe...

Post-partum depression or orang2 call it as gila meroyan is a famous term for post-delivery moms.

Yes, depression.... And depression ni datang dari pelbagai latar belakang lah... Ada yang becoz kematian baby, some because she has nobody, and feel lonely, some because she couldn't take the burden and pain, etc...

Honestly, I was once consider myself as having a major depression, especially during my 1st weeks of confinement... And it happened during night time....Ada banyak sebab la...tapi memang depress sangat time tu... Sakit, susah, tak reti, tak faham, penat.... Banyak la fakor.

But Alhamdulillah, I sihat sampai la sekarang. stress tu perkara biasakan... tapi kalau tak tangani akan jadi penyakit... So, how to avoid it?

1. Remember Allah, always! this is very important and crucial... When you are in a tough situation, talk to Him... mengadu dekat Dia...

2. Recite Quran or anything that can make you feel closer to Allah... Biasa orang cakap time nifas takleh baca Quran kan? But ada perbezaan pendapat kat sini. But I don't wanna talk about that here, so the easiest way is just read the translation.

What I did was I read the translation and if I was in a very bad mood, I chose some ayat which talk about Seeking forgiveness, about asking for strength, etc... And during maghrib and before sleep, I'll recite a few short surahs to my baby so that he could hear it. The compulsary surah that I chose was Surah Al-Ikhlas, simply because I want Aaron to first, knows and loves his creator before anything/anyone else.

3. TALK! SHARE! It's totally normal to feel sad, mad and lost. Biaslah first time kan... So share what you feel to someone, anyone you could trust. Most importantly, talk to your spouse so that he knows what you feel and your condition... This is also important... pendam2 karang takut jadi bertambah teruk, kand meroyan pulak.... Just talk about anything that bother you; penat, sakit, tak larat, tak kuat... Anything...

4. Get yourself in society.... Have some activity with your friends, relatives, etc, even just a simple conversation... Why is this? Because it's not really healthy to keep youself alone in your shelter when you are depressed.

Ini mak orang ke apa ni? Ya rabbi! :)

5. Have a fresh air! Go and have a walk, a breath-taking scenery, or a short holiday...

6. Indulge yourself... subjective right? Just do whatever that would make you feel happier... As long as it is legal OK :0

7. Take it easy! It's OK if you couldn't do something perfectly, or you don't know about something. Remember, we are in a learning process. Nobody can scold you or criticise whatever you do that seems imperfect... Come on, you are still in a recovery mood right! - Don't force yourself too much

8. Seek help from other people... it's cool to ask someone else to take care of your baby for a while, or to do you a favor.... Just don't forget to thank them

9. Please take care of yourself.... The healthier you are, the better feeling you would have... Yela, tak sakit badan, kurang la sakit hati kan...

10. PLAN carefully so you can have an easier life!
- Prepare everything important before delivery : Baju, lampin ke apa, nursing pad, maternity pad, comfortable cloth, etc....
- When you are close to your due, you can prepare your food stock. Cook in a bigger portion, then store them in a container, and put them in your freezer... Make a few kind of dishes, and store them at a portion just enough for one meal... You can make a week or 2 stock and top it up later on.... Easy right! So you don't have to cook everyday. And don't worry about the nutrient. As long as you take care of the hygiene during the preparation, insyaAllah it should be fine... Bila nak guna, defroze je guna microwave or panaskan ats api...

What else?
Siapa2 yg ada pengalaman and tips to share?

IT'S EASIER SAID THAN DONE, I know. But as muslims, we must have faith in Allah. Every dark cloud has a silver lining....

My early motherhood experience (confinement day)

Aaron Houdd day 7.. Jalan2 sebab bosan dok umah
Salam girls...

Being a mother especially for the 1st timer is somehow quite challenging. So many questions you ponder about but don't know how to find for the right answers, so many chores you have to do while you hardly get your butt off your bed, plus the little tiny one you have to take care of... Owh, sound very very stressful isn't it?

Of course you will feel content, blessed and happy for having your little one. But it's a normal feeling to get mad, being sad and dissapointed at some point. The mixture of feelings that blend together are incredible!

I'd gone through a great experience of 'early' motherhood during my confinement day. I was c-sected and as you know, it's not easy to bear the pain and the limitation of everything (walking, eating, coughing, etc). I was admitted for the 1st 3 days, and then was taken care by a nanny my hubby had hired for the next 7 days (my moms were also at home at that time). After 2 weeks of delivery, I'd gone back to my apartment, taking care of myself and my baby...and did everything on my own... Alhamdulillah my hubby was a great helper!

But the thing is, I felt lonely, difficult, and sometimes uncertain about anything. Not sure whether or not I was doing the right thing for myself and the baby....My hubby was a very busy working man he always back home late....

So, I have to be independent, and confident! All mommies want the best for their babies!

But it's easier said than done...

I cried a lot... especially at night... I feel tired, exhausted, frustated at things that I couldn't do nicely, and sometimes I felt like giving up.

But I did laugh a lot too. I enjoyed everything I did for my baby, even though it took away all my courage and effort. I mad at things I did wrong, but afterward, I laugh at those things, and started all over again, making sure I'd not repeat the same mistakes again.

I consider myself as a strong woman (just to credit myself...perasan la sikit. Hehe) because I manage to pass the confinement day, most of the time, all by myself. However, My family was a big supporter even though they couldn't be with me all the time. My mom used to visit me and her grandson during her lunch hour time. My dad was the top visitor in the list (to visit the grandson of coz. I was just secondary. Hehe)... And although I was all alone during my confinement day, but I was not left behind. I was surrounded by the people I love.... I couldn't do it if they weren't there for me!

Usually, people just highlight the good and happy thing for having a baby. Some people avoid talking negatives/bad things about it. They seem to ignore or buat2 tak tahu, with the reason "Ish, not nice talking like that!"... I used to share my problem and worriness with one of my friend and she said "Tak buleh cakap macamtu. Awak kena fikir yang baik2 ja. Semua ni dugaan. Biasa lah tu... Nanti kecik hati baby kalau dia tau..."

You know, it's totally OK to talk something not good if it help to ease yourself, especially to calm your heart.... Coz if you deny it, it'll make thing worse....

Because we are all human... We are not perfect. We are learning.

** My confinement style**
Day 4-10
-Time ni best sbb ibu cuti lagi. So xpyh buat keje rumah... jadi permaisuri jugak la. Hehe... Pas hari ke 5 mcmtu ibu dah keje so nanny pulak yg uruskan semua. Nanny ni org philipino yg revert, so xde mslah la dia masak apa pun I makan je...

-I sempat berurut, bengkung and bertungku manja dlm 5 hari jugak la... Nanny yg buat. Nanny dari SPA. I recommend klu nak urut sedap jgn amek dari spa. amek dari kampung....sbb I dpt urut kampung 3x je...pastu give up sbb badan sakit semua... tp mmg sedap la...

-Time ni paling I stress esp waktu malam sebab I xreti lagi nak sesuaikan diri. Pastu incision site sangatlah sakit lagi I masih amek painkiller lagi time ni... Nak gerak untuk tuka position susukan anak pun seksa ya ampun... Pastu malam2 nak gi toilet pun payahhhhh sangat rasa mcm nak gile gak la time ni... dengan my son yg jenis yg muntah banyak... (maybe pun sbb susu I banyak, dia main telan je pastu lebih dose, muntah). Hubby tolong, tp yelah, dia pun kepenatan kerja seharian, malam nk tolong wife lg...kekadang I xkejut pun hubby sebab xsampai hati...

- Biasa org cakap during pantang jgn kua rumah. Tp I xbolh. I bosan and bolh meroyan dibuatnya terkurung je dlm rumah. So I keluar... Visit makcik2, Lepak Mc.D teman adik2, lepak byk tempat la...tp I jaga pergerakan and tgk tempat la nak pegi...

Day 15 - 30
-Every day woke up early...
-Noon time dok depan pc guna internet
-Masa Aaron tido pagi around 10, I start masak untuk myself
-Masa Aaron tido after breastfeed tghr, layan Avatar all 3 seasons sempat habis during confinement :)
-Malam tak masak sbb hubby balik beli mkanan... I just ate whatever I cooked tghr for my dinner if hubby balik lewat sgt
-Buat keje umah time Aaron tido la....so biasa kerja separuh jalan and kena sambung bila next aaron tido time...
- Membasuh, memasak, mengemas, dan semua me yg lain diuruskan sendiri... Tp hubby memang banyakkkkk sangat tolong. tu yg tambah syang tu. Hehe... Mandikan Aaron quite challenging time ni sebab sakit operate pun masih tak pulih lagi... So nak dukung Aaron yg montel time tu, nak bongkok2 bagai, memang seksa jugakla...
Masa ni Aaron 3 bulan kot....

**My menu**
I makan semua makanan yg halal! syarat 1 je: Berkhasiat!
So x goreng2 and minyak2, no lemak2 banyak....

I amek banyak air....seriyes banyak! masalah, pee pee kerap. nak gi toilet seksa ya ampun... tp bagus minum banyak supaya kita tak dehydrate, susu pun banyak, badan pun sihat! PENTING NI.

I makan buah... takde istilah buah panas ke sejuk ke. I makan je. cuma kurangkan yg mana I tengok buat anak I kembung perut... tapi alhamdulillah sepanjang Aaron lahir sampai skang dia jarang kembung perut even I malas stoking kan dia... barut lagi la hampeh. sbulan je kot pakai...pastu tak muat dah semua...

I operate... so penting untuk amek protein supaya luka cepat sembuh... I makan byk ikan...tapi susu hanyer sket la... ayam and daging pn makan...masak je semua style! tapi I like steam sbb paling sehat!

Sayur is wajib seperti juga buah...

Is it true that a vaccine can cause the disease it was meant to protect against?

The answer depends on the type of vaccine. Only vaccines made from live viruses or bacteria carry any risk of transmitting a disease, and even then, the risk is very small and the symptoms are generally very mild.

All vaccines create immunity by introducing a substance that triggers the body's immune system to react and produce antibodies, but not all vaccines are the same. Some are made with live viruses or bacteria that have been greatly weakened. Others are made with bacteria or viruses that have been killed. And still others use only specific parts of the bacteria or viruses to stimulate the body's defenses.

Here are the basic types of vaccines:

Attenuated vaccines are made from live viruses and live bacteria that have been weakened, usually by repeated replication in a lab. Because these organisms are alive, it's possible for them to cause a very mild form of the disease. This happens very rarely, but that's why doctors are cautious about giving live vaccines to anyone with a weakened immune system, such as someone being treated for cancer.

Only vaccines made from live viruses or bacteria carry even a small risk of transmitting the actual disease. The following vaccines on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) immunization schedule for children are made from live viruses:

None of the other vaccines on the immunization schedule, including the polio shot, are made from live viruses or bacteria. (The oral polio vaccine is made from live viruses but is no longer used in the United States.)

Inactivated or killed vaccines are made from bacteria or viruses that have been killed by heat or chemicals. You can't catch a disease from an inactivated vaccine because the infectious agent can't reproduce, but the dead virus or bacteria is still enough to stimulate the body's immune system. The flu shot and injected polio vaccine are inactivated vaccines.

Component or fractional or subunit vaccines are inactivated vaccines that are made from just a part of the virus or bacteria. For the Hib vaccine, for example, part of the coating of the bacteria is introduced. This stimulates immunity against the bacteria itself. The hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines and thepneumoccocal vaccine are component vaccines. Partial viruses and bacteria are unable to reproduce or cause disease.

Toxoid vaccines contain a toxin or chemical made by the virus or bacteria and so protect against the harmful effects of infection rather than the actual infection. These vaccines include the DtaP vaccine, which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. Toxoid vaccines do not contain the virus or bacteria and cannot cause disease.

In the know: Baby walker

So happy running, yet still tatau walking

Mobile baby walkers are not recommended, because they are dangerous and associated with many injuries. In addition, they may give babies too much support and therefore slow the acquisition of balance and the muscle strength needed in the legs for walking....

Lagak seperti dah besar budak kecik ni

Recent research has shown that using baby walkers can be associated with delayed onset of independent walking. Your baby still needs plenty of opportunity to walk barefoot. This will give him a greater sense of stability as it brings his feet into closer contact with the walking surface and allows him to adjust the position of his feet easily.

Eh, dah besar laaa... Dah sama panjang dgn Nu. 5 tuuuu!

too much/less sleep in early pregnancy can lead to hypertension in the 3rd trimester

OK moms! this is a very quick sharing moment about somethin' I've found just now. (Nak carik info untuk buat presentation kat Jepun nanti, alih-alih terjumpa benda alah ni)

Briefly, its about how your sleeping pattern influence your health during the end of your pregnancy. The article is too long and too scientific blah blah blah, so I just make it short OK.

According to a paper published in the journal of SLEEP, (I wonder there's such name for a scientific journal) getting too little (less than 5-6 hours) or too much (more than 10 hours) of night sleep in early preggy is associated with elevated blood pressure in the 3rd trimester. The study suggests that improving prenatal sleep hygiene may provide important health benefits.

Not only that, the study also found an association between sleep duration and preeclampsia (a condition that involves preggy-induced hypertension along with access protein in the urine). Moms who have nightly sleep less than 5 hours during their early pregnancy have 10x higher risk of preeclampsia.

The study suggests a consistant sleeping pattern for preggy mom, and also for women who are planning to become pregnant. There's some tips;

  • Establishing a consistent sleep schedule
  • Following a relaxing bedtime routine
  • Creating a comfortable sleep environment
  • Keeping technological distractions such as the TV and computer out of the bedroom
  • Eating at least two to three hours before bedtime
  • Exercising regularly during the day
  • Avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bedtime and giving up smoking.

Alhamdulillah, even I dont have enough sleep masa preggy dulu, tapi blood pressure OK. tp for kawan2 yg masih preggy, better jaga lah kesihatan so that we lower the risk of any complications during and after pregnancy.

Arghhh... masa dah suntuk, get back to work! -LOL-

9 plus 1 medicine you shouldn't give your baby

Salam to all,
Sorry I kinda busy lately I couldn't afford to update my blog. But this is something that *I think* is very important to share.... (Herm, I nie semua important. Ahaks)

9 medicine you shouldn't give your baby (Source from www.babycenter.com, and other few health articles)

1. Aspirin
Aspirin is not good for your baby. It can lead to Reye's syndrome. Other name of Aspirin is salicylate or acetylsalicylic acid. Some/many drugs contain aspirin, so please ask the Doctor/pharmacist every time you prescribe medicines for your baby.

2. OTC cough & cold medicine
Over the counter (OTC) drug is basically a medicine that you can buy directly from the counter/pharmacy without doctor's prescription. OTC drugs don't normally help to treat cold/cough for baby. They somehow can lead to other problems such as rashes, drowsiness, upset stomach, and as severe as fasten heartbeat. OTC drug can easily be given to kids with a wrong dosage.

3. Anti-nausea medications
This medication is not necessary to your baby because most babies can handle vomiting problem by themselves. This problem is normally for temporary only. Let the body handle it naturally...

P/s: keep on breastfeed your baby and make sure your baby get enough liquid. If this problem happens to your bigger kid (vomiting & diarrhea), you might wanna consider giving your kid ORS to counter the dehydration problem.

However, if severe symptoms happen, and baby begins to get dehydrated, please contact your baby's paed.

4. Adult medications
I don't think a wise parent would give their baby an adult's medication. For sure the dosage of the medicine is not age and size appropriate to the baby. Furthermore, the content of the medication might not be suitable for a baby.

5. Any medication prescribed for someone else or for another condition
Prescribed medications means that the drugs are designed for a specific condition only. They are not a universal drug that can treat many illnesses (there's nothing like that). Giving your baby a prescription drugs intended for someone else or other illnesses might not just be ineffective, but also could lead to other severe problems. Give her only medicine prescribed for her and her specific condition.

6. Anything expired
Expired drugs may no longer be effective and can even be harmful. You have to check the date, and also the colour of the drugs. Get rid of discoloured or crumbly medicine. Most importantly, be alert on the drug's label!

7. Extra acetaminophen
Some medicines contain acetaminophen to help ease fever and pain. Beware not to give your baby an additional separate dose of acetaminophen. Giving your baby either ibuprofen or acetaminophen or switch between both two back and forth is OK but you MUST take note on the dosage and your baby's condition. To be safe, don't give your baby this two medicines unless with a proper dosage or by the paed's recommendation.

8. Chewables
Chewable tablets i.e pills are not suitable for babies. Unless your baby has already eating solid, you can crush the tablets and mix it in your baby's food. But you have to make sure your baby takes all the food so that he can get the right dosage of the medicine.

P/S: I still think giving tablet to baby is not good.

9. Chinese herb ma huang (ephedra or ephedrine)
Herbal products may be safe to adults but not to babies. Most of herbal products (even they are derived from natural products) have adverse side effects. They might cause allergic reaction, high blood pressure and liver damage.

Herbal remedies are not a good choice for baby as the dosage might not be suitable. Wrong combination or mix medications can lead to other problems and might also be fatal. Please consult the paed's before you go on to any herbal products.

10. Don't ask for Antibiotic every time your baby is sick (tambah sendiri)
OK. point no. 10 I add it myself. You know, our culture is always if you sick, you must take medicines. The more medicines you eat, the better!

It's wrong! Most common illnesses like flu, cough, etc can be treated naturally. Our body can produce immune system to fight those illnesses. We just need to trust our body, give sometimes to recover. Same goes to our baby.

And not all illnesses can be treated with antibiotic! Those illnesses that is not caused by bacteria cannot be treated by antibiotic. Flu is one of the illness that is not cause by bacteria. It is caused by a virus named influenza. So if your baby has flu, never ask for antibiotic. In fact, don't ask for any medicine because your baby can fight it himself!

Having so much antibiotic can lead to antibiotic resistance. This means, more dosage or stronger type of antibiotic is required each time your baby really need it for the next time because the normal dosage won't kill the bacteria any more. It sounds dangerous isn't it? It IS dangerous!

********
We don't have to be a doctor to know about health facts. We just have to be a wise mother who know exactly what our baby's essential needs. Do a lot of readings and it will ease ourself. At least, when our baby is sick, we know what to do. We moms are always our baby's first doctor.
