Short but important info to share!

20:29 pm - I've just finished my work and want to lepak my mind a bit before doing some data analysis... Suddenly terfikir untuk share some info yang InsyaAllah berguna untuk semua... (Seriyes risau apalah agaknye Aaron Houdd tengah buat, sorry sayang Ummi balik lewat lagi hari ni)

1. Pneumococcal IV
It's a new (improved) vaccine, specially dedicated for kids. It protects against pneumococcal infections (Streptococcus pneumoniae), a bacteria that can cause severe diseases such as meningitis, ear infections, pneumonia, etc...

Babies can have the injection as early as 2 months old.

Price --- For me, it's a bit expensive (really really expensive actually). I'm not sure about other hospitals but in SDMC, it cost us about RM 280++ PER injection. (Including consultation etc, it's RM350++) - So, RM 350 x 4 = RM 1400...

I know all mom want the best for their kids. But unfortunately, not all moms can bear this price. We know that money can't buy health. For those yang berkemampuan, I think it's good to consider this alternative for your child's betterment.

Tapi kalau rasa kureng berkemampuan and banyak nak pakai duit... It's OK. It's just an alternative intravenous. Just maintain a healthy life for you and your family. So that kurang risiko kena infection.

2. Ever heard of roseola infection?
Roseola is an infectious virus that often infects infants under the age 3, but is most common in baby below one year old. It is thought to be caused by the human herpes virus six.

Symptoms:
1- Fluctuate (unexplained) high fever that can last up to 5 days (sometimes more)
2- After 24 hours (or later), a rash will appear on face, neck, shoulder, upper arms and the trunk...(When the rash subside, all other symptoms will leave also)
3- May also get diarrhea, nausea and vomitting.
4- common type of fever symptoms i.e runny nose, lose of appetite, irritability and sore throat.

Symptoms can last from 7 to 10 days. Roseola virus is highly contagious. It can be spread through contact with saliva or being breathed by another baby with roseola.

What should mommies do?

Don't worry too much Mommies!

Below are the things you should do;
-Keep your baby AWAY from other baby with rashes or fever
-Treat the fever: Give your baby a recommended dosage of paracetamol (acetaminophen or ibuprofen) but NO aspirin! - Don't bother about the name/brand too much. Just give whatever paracetamol the paed gave to your baby.
-Keep your child hydrated with plenty of liquid. If your baby is breastfeeding, make sure you consume plenty of water. BREASTFEED YOUR BABY MORE OFTEN!

p/s: The fever that Aaron had had last time was this roseola infection..... :-(

New achievement & idaman hati Aaron...

A day after I post my previous entry (A brilliant 7 months old boy), Aaron has improved his KPI...

But still! Achievement la tuh kan kan? Hehehe....

Point: Improvement- 1. creep forward/backward; 2. wave bye-bye...

Petang - Ummi Aaron semangat nak carikan baju baru untuk Aaron, so singgah lah ke Tesco Setia Alam after balik dari UM... Beli punya beli, tengok2 hampir nak pokai la jugak wallet. Huhu.... Point nak bagitau adalah, one of the stuff yang Ummi Aaron bought for him was a CUTE rattle ball. Mengikut penaakulan Ummi Aaron, maybe ada chance untuk Aaron suke, since dia pun bukannya banyak toys (I mean, the real one)...

Sampai2 rumah Tok Daddy, semangat sungguh Ummi Aaron showed to Aaron barang2 yang dibeli. Kebetulan harini Aaron dah pandai mengesot ke depan dan belakang (not just rolling & rolling), so boleh kata as reward jugakla apa yang Ummi belikan....

Meh kita tengok apa reaksi Aaron after he got his new rattle ball...

Nampaknya Aaron lebih sayangkan tutup botol susu dia...Huhuhu!

A brilliant 7 months old boy! ~yay yay~

Alhamdulillah, today, my son has reached his 7 months of experiencing life!

So let see what's in the list ;p
  • Hair : Herm... Believe me he got hairs! As u can (hardly) see, he got soft & silky hairs (macam iklan syampoo lak. ahaks) - Well, try to keep in track his hair development for another couple of months. I don't think there would be much different though. Hehe...

  • Babbling: Ahha, he's now experts on babbling (and screaming!).... His favorite consonants & vowels are A'aaaaaaaaaa, nggeh nggeh, enggeyek, ba-ba-ba, bek-bek-bek & emma-maah.... (so happy bila dengar dia borak, tapi bila time dia menjerit.... Sabo je la kak oi)

  • Creeping: Yeah, he has mastering his first turn towards independence.... Rolling over! my son is an excellent roller. He rolls to wherever he wanna go (up till now, still no forward/backward movements. Punggung berat sangat kot tu yang rolling lebih berkesan kat dia. Haha)

  • Sits with support: He normally sits propped up, assisted by pillows and his bouncer. But he couldn't last long. Tapi kejap tadi, he has shown his talent on sitting without support for longer time! Cleeeever boyyyyy ;-*
Who said I can't sit down on my own? seeee!
Oppssss.... show time is over! hehe

  • Teeth: Ummi, isn't it's to early to ask about teething?!
takde gigi, tak payah gosyok gigi kan kan? ;p

----So that's all for this month's milestone..... -------

See, I'm a big boy already!!!

Messy house & a happy baby (",)

I am the kind of person who always make sure my territory is neat. I'll clean up my table before I start studying. I'll tidy my kitchen every time I finish cooking. I mop & vacuum my entire house at least once a week. I'll make sure every thing is on its place. I could take a day leave just to tidy up my messy house. My sister says I'm such a fierce person, and near to a perfectionist.

Actually I'm not... (seriously).... I just don't like doing the same job over and over again (well, that sounds lazy. Haha).

But that was before we have an energetic baby boy in the house. Now, everything has changed.

Having a growing up baby in the house sometimes makes my patience go away. Like my son, he loves to play with whatever he sees. Expensive and fancy toys don't work for him as he'll always prefers books, tissue box, bottles, containers, etc... He'll empty his toy basket and plays with the basket, instead of the toys! (and of course, everything looks so delicious he'd easily poke stuffs into his mouth).

Another of his favorite are electronics. He always choose tv remote, mobile phone & mp4 over his biscuits. He enjoys the games he made himself. The positive side is, I think this is one of the way to encourage his imagination as well as to generate more nerves to function. But I have to be extra aware of whatever he takes and play with.

The thing is, as any other mother whom has other commitments outside the house, I find myself very hard to maintain a neat environment in my house. Toys are everywhere, comforter and pillows in the living room all day, and sometimes piles of unfolded cloths stand very firmly in my room, waiting for me to touch them... One day I finish clearing and cleaning up, the next day it turns upside down again. (As a lazy person), I couldn't bear this bedlam.

Ibu always says "Kakak anak baru sorang, tapi rumah dah macam tongkang pecah dah" Hehehe...

But all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy....

When I'm in the house with my son, I spend my time with him rather than vacuum my house. I choose to interact with him than busying myself in the kitchen. Only when Daddy Aaron is around, we work as a teamwork and take turns to do the chores and play with Aaron Houdd.

From my reading, growing a happy baby means you have to provide a happy environment for your baby. Baby needs our affection, which means not only our love, but also our care and attention. Baby learns faster when there is a positive interaction and communication between him and people around him. Being so strict and create so much rules for baby is not a nice parenting way.

A neglected baby often grows up as an uncommunicative child. Furthermore, giving all the attention your baby needs will enhance his self esteem and makes him feel cherished.

According to my son's paed, Dr. Sofiah Ali from SDMC (formerly known as SJMC), a 5 months old baby may start to need more deep eye contacts between him and his parents. This is to teach baby to focus on something at one time. Talk to your baby and let him enjoy the moments with you. This is of course even if you have to close one eye over your messy house!

Some info about fever ^_^

How can I identify a fever?
At 7 months, you know your baby pretty well and will probably be able to tell if something's amiss. If he feels warmer than usual, use a thermometer to measure his temperature. Although you often hear that a normal temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius), the reading for a healthy baby may fall anywhere between 97 and 100.4 degrees F (36 and 38 degrees C), taken rectally.

When should I worry?
Hard as it is to believe, a fever is your baby's friend — it means his body is heating up to fight off an infection. Infants tend to have higher average temperatures than older children, so "fever" in a baby is considered to be any of the following:
• a rectal or forehead temperature above 100.4 degrees F (38 degrees C)
• an ear temperature above 100 degrees F (37.8 degrees C)
• an armpit temperature above 99 degrees F (37.2 degrees C)

Because older children can tell us where it hurts, we tend to worry less about their low-grade fevers. But when your child is 3 to 6 months old, he can't do that, so you should call the doctor if your baby hits or exceeds the temperatures above. At 7 months of age and older, it's okay to wait until the temperature reaches 103 (taken rectally) to call the doctor. Regardless, it's always appropriate to call your baby's doctor if you're worried.

Also call if the fever is accompanied by any of the following: difficulty breathing, appearance of small purple-red spots or large purple blotches on the skin, loss of appetite, inability to swallow, excessive drooling, lethargy, a glossy-eyed or otherwise unusual appearance, or delirious, irritable, or otherwise unusual behavior. In children between 6 months and 5 years of age, fever can also triggerfebrile seizures — a benign though frightening experience. Mention these and any other symptoms to your doctor when you call.

What should I do to bring my baby's fever down?
Try removing layers of clothing, giving him a lukewarm tub or sponge bath, or letting him rest in a cool (not cold) room. Prevent dehydration by breast- or bottle-feeding frequently.

If these steps don't bring relief, call your baby's doctor to see whether medication is in order. If it is, be sure to ask what dosage is appropriate at your baby's age — the safe amount is based on your baby's weight, which changes frequently. Make sure never to give more than the recommended dosage at the appropriate intervals. If high doses are required to keep your baby's fever down, you might want to alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen (which lets you give medicine more often without risking an overdose). Keep both in your medicine cabinet, just in case. Remind the doctor if your baby is on any other medication, and never give a baby aspirin, which can cause Reye's syndrome in a child with a fever.

More important than the fever itself is how your child feels overall. If he's eating, sleeping, and playing well, then he probably doesn't need treatment or medical attention. When it comes to fever, trust your intuition as much as your thermometer.

Aaron, let's fight the virus!

Peace be upon u...

I believe every mommy in this world wants the best for their baby. And of course, mommies always want their kids to be healthy. But what if the baby is sick? what should the mommy do?

That's what happening to my baby- After almost 7 months exploring and wandering the world on his own way, he has gotten quite severe fever (for his first time). And it has been prolonged for 4 days!

Thursday - On the first day, he got a runny nose - a clear color of liquid... Other than that, he looked fine - energetic and jolly as usual... But my mother instinct started to knock my conscious, ever since...So, i started to monitor his temperature and physical movements. Indeed, mother instinct never lies. His body temperature began to increase after maghrib. I stayed awake the whole night, monitoring his progress; Keep on putting damp cloth onto his forehead and cuddled him to sleep every time he'd awoken.

Friday - On Friday morning, he was getting better...He played with his (crazy) aunties, and eat (quite) a lot of mashed potato. My hubby has gone to work so he asked me to bring Aaron to Klinik Adek (the nearest and the best paediatrician in Seksyen 9) early in the morning coz in the afternoon, we're supposed to start our journey to Ipoh. But the whole morning, the whether was so bad and i couldn't afford to bring Aaron to the clinic. Since his condition was better than last night, I thought it was OK not to bring him to any other clinic....So I just gave him paracetamol for infant, given by his paeds, Dr. Safiah Ali when he had his first IV.

Aaron Houd and Bonda

Unfortunately on Friday night, his temperature got higher. We reached Ipoh after Isya' and straight away to my cousin's house (did not see any clinic operated at that time). I gave him 2nd dose of paracetamol and waited for another 6 hours for the next prescription.

Saturday - 3rd day he got his fever and still no sign of getting better. He had no appetite slump but he vomits every time after feeding. Things were worsen when I myself got flu and few symptoms of fever. sigh!

So we brought him to KPJ Ipoh to see a specialist there. I was worried if he was diagnosed of having dengue fever (back in the kampung, there were so many mosquitoes and he got a few mosquito bites). I was praying soooo hard that he was just having an ordinary viral infection...

The Doctor said it's only a normal viral infection but if he still have it by Monday, further check up is needed.

Here is some conversations with the doctor that i still remember ;p

Doc: Has anyone of your family had dengue fever?
Daddy Aaron: Nope
Doc: Anybody from family members having fever?
Ummi Aaron: Actually, his daddy had it last wednesday. So it's the daddy who started it all
Doc: (Laugh very loudly) Ahha, so it's the daddy's fault ha?
Ummi Aaron: I think so.
Doc: What about the mommy? Mommy is all right ha?
Ummi Aaron: I'm starting to get the effect from the baby...
Doc: (Laugh again, not as loud as before) So again, it's the daddy's fault who spread the virus haa?
Ummi Aaron: (smile with full of satisfaction) Yes doc...

The whole day at my cousin's house, I only focus on my son. Of anything in this world, of course my son is my priority! (Sorry cousin, cannot rewang so much on your wedding...and thx for being so understanding)

Sunday - Morning, temperature up again to 38.2 degrees (only minus 2 degrees from yesterday) but in the afternoon, it went down a bit. So now I knew that my son is having a fluctuate pattern of fever. 2 times vomits, but other than that, he was OK. Playing very hard and enjoying himself being pampered by his Tok Daddy and Lola and Onni.

After maghrib until now, his temperature raise again. The last time he had his medicine was 2 and half hours ago. Now, he's sleeping in his room.... By tomorrow, if he is still the same, we'll bring him to see his paeds, Dr. Safiah Ali....

********************************

Actually, I've tried to trace where the virus came from and how he got it (apart from blaming the daddy for having it first. Hehehe)

Maybe, my son is so tired his fragile body couldn't bear the fatigue since the first day of hari raya. We traveled a lot - from Shah Alam to Klang to Batu Pahat to KL to Klang to Ipoh and back to Shah Alam - All within a week.

When the body is tired and weak, the immune system is decreasing...So, the more chances of the baby being exposed to any viral or bacterial infection.

Secondly, if you guys notice, the whether is quite unstable lately. Kejap panas, karang tiba-tiba hujan...In Batu Pahat, it was so hot until we felt so lazy to go out for beraya. And you know la, we got air cond in the car, and high heat outside the car... being exposed to constant temperature changes is not good, especially for baby...

Thirdly, Aaron was very famous back in kampung. Because he's the smallest and the only baby there, his kiddy uncles and aunties were a big fan of him. Everywhere he goes, they'll escort him. This includes the time he needed his nap. He has got almost zero proper nap 3 days in the row! Imagine he went through a long distant journey, plus beraya to a lot of houses but he missed his nap time, and a disturbing night sleep...Of course he's not OK! I was a bit annoyed but I cant do much. You know kids, kita marah pun diaorang buat dekkk.... lagi2 rumah kampung. Bila diaorang berlari, bergegar lah seluruh rumah. Bunyik papan yang dorang pijak tu yang buat diaorang lagi masyukkk....So, what to do?

But I know, my son is a very strong boy. Despite from having a fever, he still smiles, laughs, plays, and do all his daily routines with joys. As a mother, no matter how worry I am, no matter how sad I feel, I must be strong! I must support him and encourage him to fight the fever.

But you know what, my son is the one who teaches me how to be strong and never give up. He teaches me that even tough you are sick or not feeling well, you must be happy, especially in front of the person you love the most, so that they'll not worry so much on you!

Thank you sayang!
